Grand and 5 other prizes at the “Traffic • Future” National Competition

On January 10th, the University won 1 grand prize, 1 first prize, 3 second prizes and 1 third prize at the Final of the 3rd National Competition of College Students Scientific Innovation Works “Traffic • Future” held in Shanghai Jiaotong University. With the highest number of prizes harvested in the country, the University was granted the “Excellent Organization Award” among all the participating colleges and universities.

This Competition was jointly sponsored by Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University and Beijing Jiaotong University under the supervision of China Association of Higher Education.

A total of 729 works from 134 universities had been collected in this Competition since September 2020 when it was launched. Eventually, 155 works from 68 universities were selected in the national finals through a series of competitions.

The Competition is divided into four parts, i.e., future traffic design, future traffic governance, future traffic energy and future intelligent traffic, showcasing the fantastic ideas for future traffic, the practical technologies, investigations and reflections on social hotspots, and the in-depth exploration of the scientific frontiers.

This Competition is closely related to the theme of "Traffic • Future", and the judges make the final evaluation on the works from the aspects of feasibility, innovation, scientific level and display effect. Clear Wind and Bright Sun: An Infrared Ray Snow Removal Device for Sichuan-Tibet Railway Turnouts Powered by Wind and Sun, a work supervised by professor Zhang Zutao at the School of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the Grand Prize; Solutions to Public Transportation Drivers' Mental Health Problems supervised by professor Feng Guo at Psychological Research and Counseling Center, the first prize; Earthquake Rescue Vehicle – Life Whale and Super Visor – Health Inspector, supervised by professor Li Ran at the School of Architecture and Design, and Re-Noise Power Generation Sound Barrier, supervised by professors Zhang Zutao and Pan Yajia at the School of Mechanical Engineering, the second prize; Research on Formation Algorithm of Unmanned Vehicles on Expressway Based on Fish Swarm Effect, supervised by professor Yan Qiu at Mao Yisheng Honors College, the third prize.

The “Transportation • Future” Competition was inaugurated by China Association of Higher Education in collaboration with the four Jiaotong Universities in 2016 to commemorate the 120 anniversary of the founding of Jiaotong University. The competition has been successfully held for three times with the first and the second at Southwest Jiaotong University.
