To celebrate the 123th anniversary of the establishment of Southwest Jiaotong University and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the mechanical discipline, the " Mechanical Discipline leader and Deans Joint Conference of Southwest Region 2019" hosted by the School of Mechanical Engineering was held in the mechanical Museum of Jiuli campus of Southwest Jiaotong University on the afternoon of May 17. The conference was chaired by Professor Zhou Zhongrong, Vice president of Southwest Jiaotong University.
Professor Qian LiMao introduced the establishment, development history, current status and future goals of school of mechanical engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University firstly, then introduced the main achievements, scientific research platform, personnel training, professional situation of the mechanical subject, and construction goal of supporting the world's number one rail transit in detail, and finally introduced the activity arrangement. Each Dean introduced the school's Mechanical College from the aspects of the school's history, discipline construction, teaching resources, scientific research platform, international vision, student development, etc., and put forward the difficulties and problems faced in the development of the discipline in combination with the actual situation of the school. The presidents gave sincere responses from their respective work experience.
Wang Baorui, Secretary of the seventh Institute of China Academy of Engineering Physics, suggested that for ultra-precision manufacturing, the Research Institute and universities should cooperate closely, and jointly work out a challenge plan, aiming at national needs and solving major national problems. Secretary Wang pointed out that every school has the saying of "Mechanical Manufacturing 2025". The shortcoming of domestic technology is independent controllability and strong demand for intellectualization. However, no matter how well intellectualization is carried out, chips will be "stuck" if it is bought. Problems in the field of control must be solved from the most basic places such as the bottom layer and algorithms. To solve problems and cultivate talents based on the national demand, this is also the premise of "mechanical manufacturing 2025".
Professor Cai Yong, Dean of school of manufacturing science and engineering, Southwest University of science and technology, made the conference LOGO for the joint meeting. The English initials "S" of Southwest China and the English initials "M" of mechanical discipline were used for design. The overall letter shape is like a person running forward, representing advanced, active and unremitting stuggle; the overall shape of LOGO was like two people working together, with the meaning of cooperation, unity and win-win.
At the end, Vice president Zhou Zhongrong made a concluding speech, emphasizing that “Strong Mechanical, Strong engineering; Engineering is strong, the country is strong”. The leaders of the mechanical science in Southwest China should conduct more such joint meetings and form an adult meeting system to strengthen the cooperation of talent exchange and scientific research, mutual cooperation, mutual help, mutual support, win-win cooperation, and write a new chapter for the construction and development of the mechanical subject in Southwest China!
